Looking after your home through autumn

October 2026 · Monthly newsletter

General guidance for October 2026. Images are illustrative, not photographs of our clients or completed work.

A safe, comfortable home depends on clear communication as well as maintenance. This October housing edition shares practical steps for residents, families and people supporting someone in accommodation.

Report repairs with the right detail

When you report a problem, describe its location, when it started and whether it is getting worse. Photos can help, but only take them if it is safe and avoid including other residents or private information.

Do not attempt electrical or gas repairs yourself. Where there is immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service rather than waiting for a routine enquiry to be answered.

  • Give the property address and a contact number.
  • Explain access arrangements and any support needs relevant to the visit.
  • Keep a note of what you reported and any agreed next steps.

Make shared areas work for everyone

Keep exits and communal routes clear. Be considerate about noise and shared facilities, and raise concerns through the agreed housing contact rather than allowing disagreements to escalate.

If a cleaning or maintenance issue affects a communal area, explain how it is affecting residents. The right response depends on the property, the nature of the issue and the responsibilities set out in the housing agreement.

Ask for support early

If someone is finding it difficult to manage their housing arrangements or day-to-day routines, a timely conversation can help identify suitable next steps. Supported accommodation is not the same as a care service, and support arrangements should be explained clearly.

Anchor Housing works across social housing, supported accommodation and residential and commercial lettings and sales. Contact the team about your circumstances; eligibility, availability, costs and any support offer must be confirmed individually.

This month's takeaway

Clear reports and early conversations help keep housing concerns manageable.
